Sheer Love

Some of you may have been following along my curtain journey on Instagram. After being in my home for three years, we finally decided to add Sheers to our Void window and Kids Bedrooms with Curtain World.

The Void

This window is over two-storeys, 5m long and looks out into our internal garden with a Japanese Maple. Recently, the neighbours cut down a couple of trees and we needed an option for privacy. This was the catalyst for finding a good solution for this window. I contacted Curtain World to see what they could do, they’ve been around for over 40 years in Perth so I figured they would have some ideas for me! They were also having a Winter sale and I’m all about saving a little cash!

The lovely Julie came out to quote for me – my brief was grey and sheer but still provide some privacy when the lights were on at night time. Julie showed me the thickest sheer she had in this lovely grey fabric – it was perfect! Another bonus was that she said we could do it without motorisation (which can be quite pricey $$).

I organised scaffolding so the installer could reach the height of the window. He was such a gun on the day making climbing up and down that scaffold and installing the Sheers look so easy. He knew what he was doing and did it with a smile which is always nice!

The results below really speak for themselves! I couldn’t be happier. It has added some warmth to the space, softened the harshness of the window frames and they are so light and easy to open/close. They create a real WOW factor in this entry space!

The lowdown:

  • Moreno Sheer
  • Colour – Spectra
  • S Wave on Silver Rail

The Kids Rooms

When we built our house, we added blockout blinds to all the kids rooms but always wanted Sheers. The kids were three, two and 8 months old… this was why I didn’t install them straight away. There had been too many incidents in our household with textas, crayons, toilet cleaner… the list goes on. Fast forward three years and I finally feel like the kids are responsible enough to keep away from their curtains with harmful substances… let’s hope I’m not eating my words!

As Curtain World were already coming out to measure the Void window, I had them measure and quote on all the kids rooms. When I received the sale prices back, I had to go ahead and book them in!

I chose white sheers for the girls’ rooms and a light grey for my son’s room. See the results below – I feel like each room looks like a little boutique hotel room! They have definitely softened the rooms. It’s that final piece of the puzzle that makes the rooms complete.

The lowdown:

  • Sensory Sheer
  • Colour – White (Girls Rooms) & Platinum (Boys Room)
  • S Wave on Silver Rail
  • Cost approx $800 each (Sale Price)

The Curtain World Winter Sale is on until the end of August if you’re keen to get some savings on your Curtains, Blinds or Shutters.

Thanks for tuning in! Until next time…

The beauty of wallpaper.

Ever have that feeling that something is missing from your room but you can’t quite put your finger on it? I recently felt this way about the study nook in my new home. Then I came back to a past love – wallpaper!

I first used wallpaper four years ago in my old home on the back of a TV wall. This was a paintable wallpaper with a texture so was a safe option for my first time. I figured I could just paint over it if I didn’t like it. After trying it out and loving it, I have used it time and time again. I have a fantastic wallpaper installer who has over 35 years experience and he is the only person I would ever get to install it for me (contact me for his details). He is great at matching up the pattern and ensuring a seamless finish. I can definitely say I wouldn’t attempt to install my own wallpaper but if you are game – good luck!

Let’s take a look at my study nook before…

The study nook is an open area at the top of a staircase.

I chose to add a grey cement look wallpaper to define this area. It was ordered online through Ali Express – a cost efficient way to order wallpaper direct from the overseas wholesaler. There are many wallpaper websites online and some offer samples if you are unsure about ordering a full roll. I required 3 rolls of wallpaper for this space. Wallpaper Direct UK have a great wallpaper calculator on their website.

And here’s my after!

After adding my furniture back, I can say it was definitely the piece of the puzzle that was missing!

I also chose to use this wallpaper on an inset wall at the end on my hallway, which helps make the artwork pop.

I hope seeing my wallpaper encourages you to try it out!
